Hydrogen Therapy in treatment
of COPD

Hydrogen Therapy has been proven to support the treatment of COPD
Hydrogen therapy, as an alternative method in the fight against COPD, is characterized by an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect, and these properties of the method are explained by a decrease in the level of cytokines – interleukin 6 and 8, responsible for maintaining the inflammatory process in the lungs.
A controlled clinical study proves that inhalations of hydrogen (H2) lead to significantly better results than those of oxygen.
The same study also showed that hydrogen therapy demonstrated a better tolerability and safety profile, making it preferable to oxygen therapy.
A clinical study on the benefits of Hydrogen Therapy in the Treatment of COPD
successfully completed by 93 patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), divided into two groups (Group I “Oxygen Therapy” and Group II “Hydrogen Therapy”
*in patients treated with oxygen inhalation, the improvement reached was 2.4 points on the COPD Symptomatic Patient Scale (BCSS**), while in those treated with hydrogen therapy the improvement was more than 2 times (5.3 points) same scale.
**BCSS – Breathlessness, Cough, and Sputum Scale (Shortness of breath, cough and phlegm measurement scale)
More about COPD and its treatment
with hydrogen
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a common, preventable and treatable disease characterized by persistent and usually time-progressive airflow limitation associated with an enhanced chronic inflammatory response of the airways and lungs to noxious particles and gases. Most often, COPD is accompanied by other diseases that contribute to its more severe course.
According to a controlled, multicenter, double-blind, and randomized clinical trial, inhalation of hydrogen gas (H2) can significantly improve clinical symptoms of shortness of breath, cough, and sputum production in patients with stable disease or during exacerbations (worsening of the condition).
Hydrogen inhalations can be recommended in the complex therapy of COPD
The aforementioned study was conducted and successfully completed in 93 patients with chronic obstructive disease who were in an exacerbation (deteriorated condition) at baseline.
Forty-seven of the patients received standard oxygen therapy, while the remaining 46 underwent hydrogen inhalation (hydrogen therapy). All ninety-three were initially assessed on day 1 on the COPD Patient Symptom Scale (BCSS) and followed for 7 days. On the seventh day, the name condition was again assessed on the same scale.
The most impressive discovery made in the study was that Hydrogen Therapy resulted in significantly better results than oxygen treatment. Even more exciting is the fact that patients undergoing hydrogen therapy did NOT experience a plateau period in the trend of symptom improvement throughout the study.
Hydrogen Therapy
at home
HBS10 is a device for hydrogen water and hydrogen breathing, with which everyone can easily apply hydrogen therapy at home. The device produces a minimum of 450 milliliters of hydrogen gas per minute. This covers the internationally accepted standards for hydrogen inhalation therapy.

Hydrogen Therapy with double the results compared to oxygen
According to the Patient Symptom Scale (BCSS), patients undergoing hydrogen therapy demonstrated a 120% increase in symptom reduction (greater improvement in condition) compared to those on standard oxygen therapy.
This is mainly due to the antioxidant (significantly reduces the levels of hydroxyl radicals) and anti-inflammatory effect of hydrogen. At the same time, hydrogen therapy has also demonstrated a better tolerability and safety profile than oxygen therapy.
In addition, hydrogen inhalations:
- Slow down the rate of decline in lung function;
- They affect the inflammatory cell infiltration of the airways and the remodeling of the small airways (small airways), the site from which the disease begins to develop;
- They reduce the amount of goblet cells in the MDP, which are responsible for the formation of mucus plugs.
Summary
The general scientific conclusion made is that hydrogen gas inhalation can be used in the complex therapy of COPD and significantly improve the clinical symptoms of shortness of breath, cough and sputum production in patients with stable disease or during exacerbation.
Here, the fact that hydrogen therapy is characterized by a good tolerance and safety profile also comes into consideration.
☑ Inhalation of hydrogen gas (H2) can significantly improve the clinical symptoms of shortness of breath, cough and sputum production in patients with COPD;
☑ Hydrogen therapy demonstrates higher efficiency in symptom reduction (improvement of condition) compared to oxygen treatment in COPD;
☑ Conducting hydrogen inhalations is characterized by a good tolerance and safety profile.
The proven Anti-oxidative effect of Hydrogen Therapy
Free radicals
Free radicals have been scientifically proven to disrupt red-ox homeostasis, leading to cellular oxidative stress.
This is precisely the cause of damage to the cells that make up the human body.
In short, for this reason free radicals have been linked to the onset of almost all known age-related diseases – both Alzheimer’s and:
- ☑ different types of Cancer;
- ☑ Diabetes;
- ☑ Asthma and COPD;
- ☑ Arthritis;
- ☑ Atherosclerosis;
- ☑ many more…

oxidative stress caused by

Hundreds of scientific publications unequivocally show that, thanks to its unproven antioxidant properties, hydrogen reverses this process and suppresses the progression of all types of cancer.
According to the pilot study discussed in this article, the pronounced antioxidant effect of hydrogen helps to reduce the development of Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

General benefits of
Hydrogen Therapy
What is
Hydrogen Therapy?
In essence, “Hydrogen Therapy” is an additional regular intake of hydrogen by drinking hydrogen-enriched water and/or inhaling hydrogen-oxygen gas (also known as “Brown gas” or “HHO gas”).
The so-called “Hydrogen water” is structured water saturated with hydrogen, which has been proven to hydrate the body up to 6 times faster than all other types of water (mineral, spring, tap, etc.).
Drinking Hydrogen Water can help neutralize free radicals.
Even more effective is the direct inhalation of hydrogen, since in this way about 100 times more of it is taken.
